Above is an on ground pool which ended up looking like an inground pool. In the background of this image you can see the yard sloping away. There wasn't a lot of excavation needed for this pool. The right hand side of the pool was actually completely in the ground while the left hand side of the pool sat right on top of the ground with the wall completely exposed. The homeowner decided to bring in backfill and landscape up to the pool edge. Turned out real nice don't you think?

It’s not all that difficult and the skill set needed for on ground
pool construction isn’t much more than basic construction. If you are
good with your hands, do things around the house like replace windows
and doors or put additions on homes; you most likely have the skill set.
We advise all of our on ground pool customer’s that the construction
process is basic constructions skills. If you can read a transit, know
how to read and work a level, then you’ve probably got the skill set to
install an on ground pool.
All types of people install on ground pools. We’ve had landscaper’s,
firefighters and even retired folks install their own on ground pool.
Installing the pool is not mystic or specialized in any way.
The one thing you will want to do is make sure that whoever excavates
for your pool (if needed) is knowledgeable about excavating for swimming
pools. This primarily has to do with digging the deep end of the pool,
if you want one. On ground pools can have a deep end of up to 8′ deep. Starting off the project on a good excavation will make the project go a whole lot smoother and quicker.
We have a simple set of instructions available online for you to
review before you even get started, so you will know ahead of time what
is involved. We know
written instructions
aren’t enough, so we’ve also included on the on ground pool page
several links which have pictures and explanations. The pictures
generally tell their own story about installation.

On Ground Pool Wall Assembly on a Sports Pool Dig |
Many people ask about what size pool would be best for them. This
isn’t always an easy question to answer. The simplest way to determine
which pool size is right for you is to do the following:
- Print the dig specifications of the pool shape and size you think might want.
- Let’s say you think a 16′ x 32′ on ground pool might be the size for your family.
- Using garden hose, position the hose in the same dimensional form as in the 16′ x 32′ Specifications.
- Once you’ve done this and are sure the cross dimensions are
correct, invite the family to stand inside the garden hose area. If you
feel comfortable inside this area, then this is probably the size for
you.
- You may want to add a line across the pool. This line
represents the “break”, which is the top of the slope and the end of the
the shallow end area.
- Since many families spend most of their time in the shallow end
of the pool, this is definitely where you should have your family
stand. Don’t forget to account for those times when more people than
just the family will be in the pool.
- As a general rule you want approximately 8′ of open water area around each person, so that there’s not a feeling of crowding.
Once you find the size that fits your families need, the next step is easy.
